Radon Inspection

Radon

Without a radon test there is no way to know if your home has high levels of radon or not. Radon is a radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer over an extended period of time. High levels of radon is no good for your health and that’s exactly why you should have us test for radon in your home.

testing

There are different types of tests, typically we do short term tests that take just a few days to determine if you have a problem or not. Radon enters your home in multiple ways including seeping through the pores in your concrete, often it comes in in other ways such as cracks in your walls or drains from the ground below.

safety

Based on how your home is situated on the land your home may experience more or less radon than your next door neighbor. Radon can occur in any home, new or old, in a variety of different build types which is why it makes sense to have a test done just to be safe.

Radon is invisible. Much like carbon monoxide. You cant taste, smell or see it, but that doesn’t mean its presence doesn’t exist. Radon is the second leading cause of cancer deaths – specifically lung – in the US. This invisible gas has claimed the lives of over 20,000 people each year. roughly 3,000 of these reported deaths are among non-smokers. The EPA and the US Surgeon General urge every American to protect themselves by having their homes tested for the presence of Radon Gas.

Radon mitigation systems can be expensive which is exactly why you would want to have a test done prior to moving into a home to  determine weather you have a problem or not. The systems to mitigate radon are far less of an issue than finding out you have an issue after the damage is done.

If you are having your home tested during a real estate transaction to help you decide whether you want to move forward with your purchaser or not we are here to help. We will place a monitor in the home which will need to be left unbothered for 48 hours. Once we gather the monitor back, the results are typically available immediately. A detailed report on the findings of the test will be provided to you via email.
